1. Mechanical cleaning
A) Brushing using a manual or electric tooth brush
It is recommended that you brush twice a day; in the morning and in the evening.
B) Flossing with dental floss or tape
Dental tape can be used if the contact areas between your teeth feel tight. Using waxed floss/tape can help it glide between your teeth. Flossettes (floss mounted on a plastic holder) can also be used.
C) Inter-dental brushes
These come in different sizes to match the spaces between your teeth.
D) Water Pick
This is a useful tool to remove bits of food from underneath your bridges/implant bridges.
2. Chemical cleaning
A) Tooth-paste
Children under the age of 6 should use children’s toothpaste. This usually contains a 600ppm fluoride. Adults and children above the age of 6 should use adult’s toothpaste containing more than 1100ppm of fluoride. Your dentist may prescribe a higher fluoride content if you have a high rate of tooth decay.
B) Mouthwash
Mouthwash can be used as an adjunct to keeping your mouth clean i.e. they should be used at a different time to brushing. Ask your dentist as to which one is best for you to use.
